Mountain summit

Marechek Peak

Elevation above sea level: 4,215 m

A first-person 2015 climbing article gives 4215 m for Marechek, formerly Pavlik Morozov. OSM confirms the name and position but has no elevation tag. Other publications do not agree. Other checked source values: 4260 m (The KGCountry event lists 4260 m for the combined name Marechek–Bondarenko; which individual OSM summit is meant is unresolved.)

Marechek is one of three named summits on a short mapped ridge section alongside A. Bondarenko and Krasnaya Gorka.

Marechek is one of three named summits on a short mapped ridge section alongside A. Bondarenko and Krasnaya Gorka. The shared line helps distinguish neighbouring points that are close together on the map. It does not provide a complete approach from the valley. Name the intended summit clearly when discussing a climb, since visiting one ridge point does not automatically include the others.

Before committing to an ascent, establish the complete approach, the intended descent and a turnaround decision that the whole party understands. Carry navigation that works offline and discuss recent snow, rock and visibility conditions with people who know the exact line. Match equipment and technical support to that line rather than to the peak name alone. A historical account can explain the terrain, but it cannot settle today’s passage or the party’s readiness. Allow time to reassess the objective once you see the mountain.

Geographical reference for the named summit; not a route line, verified entrance or current passage assessment.
