ROUTE OVERVIEW
At a glance
Leave the road behind in Bash-Kaindy
The Shaar outing begins in the valley above Bash-Kaindy, in the At-Bashy district, with a transfer to the camping and yurt-camp area before the walk. The mapped point is an actual camping area beside the valley route. Confirm with a local driver where a vehicle can safely stop today, and agree the footpath and bridge access before setting off. It is a different trip from merely reaching At-Bashy village. The complete day requires sustained walking and enough daylight for the return. Do not assume that a rough road continuing beyond the camp is suitable for your hired car or that a bridge shown on an old track is usable.
Towards the waterfall basin
Walk steadily up the valley, keeping attention on footing rather than trying to reach the falls at a fixed hour. The destination is the waterfall basin and the view of the falling water, not an attempt to climb beside or above the drop. Choose a stable observation place well away from wet edges and unstable rock. At stream crossings, use the current safe crossing or turn back; the existence of an author track does not establish a ford is safe after rain or snowmelt. Keep the group together and leave a margin for slower descent. Treat the upper basin as a mountain environment, carrying your own food instead of expecting services at the destination.
Enough time and the right preparation
Plan roughly seven to nine hours for the walking day, adjusted to the group and the confirmed roadhead, plus transfers. The full out-and-back is approximately seventeen kilometres. An accessible author record covers the uphill leg, so its distance must not be mistaken for a complete return itinerary. Wear mountain walking shoes, bring rain and warm layers, sun protection, treated water, a first-aid kit and offline navigation. Organise a local guide if route finding or river judgement is uncertain. During research, the recorded track download required login; this page therefore provides a verified starting-area marker without a substitute line or GPX. Check weather, bridge condition and your return vehicle before departure, and postpone the upper walk when conditions are unsuitable.
Preparation and equipment
Sturdy hiking shoes, waterproof and warm layers, treated water, food, first aid and offline navigation; local guide if needed.

Is this route for you?
Choose the route after checking the actual start, finish and terrain with a local guide. Mapped geometry alone does not establish technical difficulty. Your group should be comfortable navigating offline and changing plans when conditions deteriorate.

A point of the supplied route geometry. It does not by itself confirm a parking area, settlement or safe access. Read the access and route notes before planning your visit.
Difficult sections & safety
Sustained climb, river and stream crossings, wet rock, cold spray, changing weather and slow return from a remote basin.
How much time to allow
Start early, agree a turnaround and return pickup; an author’s one-way distance does not include the walk back.
When to go
Usually summer to early autumn with open access and safe stream conditions; check snow and rain locally.

- Trail shoes or boots with good grip; layers, sun protection and waterproofs.
- Drinking water, food, a first-aid kit and a headlamp.
