ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
The Lenin Peak massif and Yukhin belong to the high Pamir landscape south of the Alay Valley. Lenin is the dominant glaciated mountain, while Yukhin is a separate summit in its northern approach country. Their relationship explains why the names can appear together in an extended expedition account.
A traverse involving Yukhin and the Lipkin Rocks concerns a particular way through this mountain landscape, distinct from the conventional northern line via Razdelnaya. The geographical interest lies in the connection between a subsidiary summit, glacier basins and the higher massif. The lower Achik-Tash and Tulpar-Kul area provides regional context rather than a substitute for those high objectives.
Route grading
TD+ — international overall alpine grade Reported by the source
TD+ is the author’s international overall alpine rating for this traverse; no conversion to 5A/5B or another Russian grade is made.
The rating applies only to the named line in the primary account. Sharing a mountain does not transfer it to other faces, ridges or tracks.
Preparation
- Established high-altitude expedition experience and an acclimatisation plan.
- Glacier rescue, protected snow/ice travel, camp management and independent retreat decisions.
Equipment to discuss with your guide
- High-altitude clothing and sleeping/camping system selected for the objective and season.
- Glacier/rope-rescue equipment, suitable boots/crampons and protection; communications and expedition reserves.

ROUTE OVERVIEW
At a glance
A high-altitude expedition traverse via Yukhin, Razdelnaya and Lenin Peak, with a descent towards Lipkin Rocks.
Derivative of the publicly offered GPX: only source coordinates and elevation retained; activity extensions and timestamps omitted. 2 m local-projection RDP simplification keeps source vertices to meet the parser point limit.
An ascent needs a separate assessment of the approach, altitude, slope conditions and descent. A short summit track does not automatically include the valley approach, acclimatisation or preparation for technical terrain.
Track length: 44.1 km. This distance covers the track shown on the map. Add any approach, return or transfer sections that are outside it.
Is this route for you?
Choose the route after checking the actual start, finish and terrain with a local guide. Mapped geometry alone does not establish technical difficulty. Your group should be comfortable navigating offline and changing plans when conditions deteriorate.

Getting there
Confirm the actual approach with local guides and arrange return transport. The first track point may belong to an upper section rather than a vehicle-accessible trailhead.
Without a car
Confirm transport to the actual trailhead, not just the nearest town. Agree the return pickup point and a latest contact time before leaving mobile coverage.
By car & parking
Ask locally about road access, entry rules and a permitted place to park. Use the line only for its stated mode of travel and exact scope.
What you will find along the way
A published expedition track for a high-altitude traverse linking Yukhin, Razdelnaya and Lenin before descending towards Lipkin Rocks. The author describes a technical expedition; the line is historical and is not a current glacier navigation prescription.
- Geometry start 39.4085, 72.8485
A point of the supplied route geometry. It does not by itself confirm a parking area, settlement or safe access. Read the access and route notes before planning your visit.
- Geometry end 39.3872, 72.8669
A point of the supplied route geometry. It does not by itself confirm a parking area, settlement or safe access. Read the access and route notes before planning your visit.
Difficult sections & safety
Mountain weather can change quickly. Rain affects traction and river crossings; snow can remain on shaded slopes. Never assume a mapped line confirms a safe crossing or a passable trail. Check recent conditions locally, set a turnaround time and leave your plan with someone who can raise the alarm.
How much time to allow
Plan your timing around the distance, ascent, terrain, weather and your group’s pace. Include breaks, the approach, descent and return transport. A past trip’s time is a reference, not a schedule for your group.
When to go
Confirm season and snow conditions before departure. Summer dates alone do not establish suitable conditions for a high mountain objective.
What to bring
For an ascent, confirm technical equipment, acclimatisation and team competence requirements with a qualified guide.
- Trail shoes or boots with good grip; layers, sun protection and waterproofs.
- Drinking water, food, a first-aid kit and a headlamp.
- An offline map, downloaded GPX, a charged phone and a power bank.
- An agreed return plan, local contact and a realistic fallback route.
GOOD QUESTIONS
Before you set out
Can I download GPX and KML?
Yes. The downloads above contain this route geometry for an offline navigation app. They do not confirm current conditions.
Has this route been checked recently?
KyrgyzMap has not field-verified this route. The map source and licence are shown below. Look for approved traveller reports and check conditions with local guides.
Can I go with children?
Suitability for children is not confirmed for this exact route. Check terrain, exposure, river crossings and retreat options with a guide before deciding.
How is the elevation profile calculated?
Elevation values come from the source file. Inaccuracies can affect total ascent. Gaps in the track are not joined.
