Its hot-spring bathing stop brings a different pace to a journey otherwise built around walking, forest and river scenery. The spring is a distinct destination from the longer Juuku Gorge, rather than another name for the whole valley.
Arrange the valley transfer and the bathing visit together: arriving at the lakeshore road does not complete the mountain approach. A sensible outing leaves room to walk, change clothes and return before the road becomes difficult to follow after dark. Confirm which bathing facility is available and what is included before setting out; a historical description is not a current booking.
If combining the visit with the nearby waterfall, treat it as a separate walk. The temperature of a bath, the river flow and the state of the trail are different conditions and should not be inferred from one another.
Plan your visit
Getting there
Arrange mountain-road transport from the southern shore and confirm the bath entrance.
When to visit
Mountain-road conditions determine access; summer outings are easiest to combine with walking.
Good to know
Confirm local access, opening arrangements and any entry rules before travel. Respect protected sites and local communities; leave the place as you found it.
