ROUTE OVERVIEW

At a glance

The mountain and the exact route

Italian Corner is a west-face route on Little Asan, a roughly 3,900 m summit in the Kara-Suu branch of Karavshin. The first-person 2015 account separates about 150 m of couloir approach from 380 m of climbing up to 6b+. It is not a route on the neighbouring main Asan or the Russian Tower.

Approach, ascent and return

Organise a valley base and identify the west face before choosing the approach. The couloir below the climb is a separate hazard and must be considered in the departure time and return plan. A few bolts reported on the first ascent do not establish the present condition of protection. Carry a complete plan for natural belays, retreat and recovery of a disabled partner.

Planning the attempt

Before committing, agree a turnaround time, check-in procedure and the conditions that will cancel the climb. Keep reserve time outside the advertised summit day. Download an offline topographic map, but do not interpret the catalogue’s orientation points as a surveyed climbing line. This is an expedition-planning overview; the climbing topo and current local assessment remain essential.

Preparation and equipment

Solid traditional multi-pitch climbing at the stated technical level, natural protection, anchor judgement and abseil competence. Confirm rack and rope lengths from a recent topo; take a helmet, communications and an emergency bivouac plan.

Track length: Not available. This distance covers the track shown on the map. Add any approach, return or transfer sections that are outside it.

Is this route for you?

Choose the route after checking the actual start, finish and terrain with a local guide. Mapped geometry alone does not establish technical difficulty. Your group should be comfortable navigating offline and changing plans when conditions deteriorate.
