Adygene is a side valley of the Ala-Archa basin in the Kyrgyz Ala-Too, south of Bishkek in Chuy Region. It connects the lower park landscape with a high headwater area shaped by glaciers, moraine debris and meltwater. The valley, the lakes above it and the mountain carrying the same name are distinct geographical objects.

Research on the upper Adygine ice-debris complex explains why the landscape changes so strongly with height. Glacier retreat has exposed debris and contributed to the formation of several generations of lakes, while water can move both over the surface and through underground channels. A lower forest-and-meadow walk therefore shows only one part of the valley. It should not be confused with reaching the lake system or climbing Adygene Peak.
