A local operator explicitly connects the two names, so they are treated here as one destination rather than two separate attractions. The appeal is a network of eroded ridges and channels in a dry landscape near the lake.
This is a useful contrast to a beach day or a forested valley. Instead of a single summit or waterfall, the experience is about changing viewpoints, the texture of the ground and the way channels divide the terrain. Choose a modest area to explore well rather than assuming every ridge in a photograph belongs to an accessible public circuit.
The name Ak-Sai is common in Kyrgyzstan. Confirm that your plans concern the Issyk-Kul south-shore canyons, not the Ak-Sai Glacier approach in Ala-Archa or another valley with the same name. A precise meeting point and an agreed return are more useful than a generic pin with a familiar label.
The local photography itineraries often combine the canyons with other south-shore stops, but their schedule is not a required pace for an independent visit. Leave room for weather and for the kind of walking your group actually enjoys. Avoid unstable edges, do not scratch names into the soft formations and carry all litter out. There is no newly surveyed GPX attached to this description; a reference to the destination should not be mistaken for a verified trail line.
