The remains represent a substantial medieval settlement shaped by connections across Central Asia. Unlike a restored fortress, the site asks visitors to imagine streets, sacred spaces and neighbourhoods from the surviving archaeological landscape. It is particularly rewarding as part of a themed journey with Ak-Beshim and Burana. Bring an interest in history and enough time for a slow walk; a brief roadside stop rarely explains why the settlement matters.
