ROUTE OVERVIEW

At a glance

Route and stops

Use Barskoon village as the start rather than adding an unnecessary length of the south-shore highway. Buy your picnic and water before turning into the gorge, then settle into a steady climbing pace. NoviNomad’s published mountain-bike programme includes an excursion to the Barskoon waterfalls; the shorter village-based version here is an editorial alternative, not a copy of its camp-to-camp distance.

Follow the public approach road and choose a sensible place to stop the bicycle near the waterfall access. The final paths to the cascades are a walking visit. Do not carry speed into a busy parking area, and do not leave the bicycle blocking the road or pedestrian path. A lock and shoes that are comfortable off the pedals make this mixed day much easier. Ask locally which waterfall path is currently open and turn back if it is slippery or damaged.

Planning your visit

Keep energy for the descent: stop before adjusting bags, use both brakes progressively and let larger vehicles pass at a safe widening. Gravel tyres, low gears and fully serviced brakes matter more than riding quickly uphill. Return to the same village for an evening meal or your onward transfer. Higher switchbacks and the Arabel route require separate preparation; they are outside this lower-gorge day ride.

Preparation and equipment

Mountain or low-geared gravel bicycle with robust tyres and excellent brakes.

Track length: 36.2 km. This distance covers the track shown on the map. Add any approach, return or transfer sections that are outside it.

Getting there

Base in Barskoon; reach the waterfalls by the public gorge road and walk the final paths. Return to the same village.

Without a car

Confirm transport to the actual trailhead, not just the nearest town. Agree the return pickup point and a latest contact time before leaving mobile coverage.

By car & parking

Ask locally about road access, entry rules and a permitted place to park. Use the line only for its stated mode of travel and exact scope.
