Sary-Mogol is a village in Alay District used as a base for exploring the northern approaches to the Pamir mountains. Its location makes it useful for arranging local guides, horse transport and trips towards the lakes and camps below Lenin Peak. The village itself provides a chance to pause, acclimatise and understand the practical scale of the surrounding landscape. Alay District and neighbouring Chon-Alay District are distinct administrative areas. Confirm each route separately, since a village stay, a lake walk and an expedition into glaciated terrain have very different requirements.
