Route and stops

Planning your visit

The road from Osh to Sary-Mogol changes from the warmer southern lowlands to a broad high valley facing the Pamir mountains. Chyiyrchyk, Gulcha, the Taldyk crossing and Sary-Tash give the journey a clear sequence. Keep the main driving day for that sequence instead of promising a lake visit immediately after arrival.

Begin from your accommodation in Osh; Sulaiman-Too is the linked city landmark, not a point to drive onto. Arrange the exact pickup or legal parking separately. Use established road stops on the way through Gulcha, with views taken only from safe places off the carriageway. Taldyk is an exposed mountain crossing: the view may be excellent, but cloud, snow or traffic can remove the opportunity to stop.

At Sary-Tash follow the confirmed road towards Sary-Mogol and finish at a guesthouse entrance. The village has local tourism services and is a useful place to settle in, buy modest last-minute supplies and discuss the next day. Confirm meals, bedding, bathroom facilities and the return transfer when booking.

Treat the altitude as part of the itinerary. A gentle village afternoon is more sensible than adding a strenuous high walk to a long ascent by car. Persistent illness or worsening symptoms require changing the plan and seeking appropriate help, rather than pressing on for a booked activity.

Tulpar-Kul is an optional continuation with its own confirmed driver, vehicle, road report and seasonal camp. This route does not draw a car line through the lake or imply that a normal road car reaches every camp. Trips into the Lenin Peak glacier area are separate mountain undertakings. Allow two or three days for the village journey and add time for the onward excursion.
