ROUTE OVERVIEW

At a glance

Route and stops

Use Karakol as the place to service the bicycle, buy food and test your luggage before heading east. The useful structure is a single outward riding day followed by a night in Jyrgalan. Destination Jyrgalan describes the road approach through Novovoznesenovka and Ak-Bulun; keep to the signed village road and check junctions on an offline map. Road surfaces and construction diversions can change, so the waypoints identify the corridor rather than certify every metre of today’s road.

The destination is worth staying for. Local tourism organisations offer mountain-bike activities, while guesthouses provide a base for short rides chosen with current local advice. Do not add an unfamiliar ridge or a hiking shortcut simply because the map shows a connecting trail. Arrive with snacks, cash and basic bicycle spares: Jyrgalan’s own information page describes only small general stores and recommends buying essentials in Karakol. Arrange dinner with your accommodation.

Planning your visit

For the return, choose another riding day or reserve a vehicle with suitable bicycle space. A passenger seat on public transport does not automatically include a bicycle. Leave time to check any bag or wheel removal with the driver, and secure the bicycle so brake hoses and derailleurs are protected. Plan to finish riding before evening visibility deteriorates.

Preparation and equipment

Gravel, touring or mountain bicycle with tyres suited to rough road sections.

Track length: 62.7 km. This distance covers the track shown on the map. Add any approach, return or transfer sections that are outside it.
