ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Kyzyl-Tuu is a village on the southern side of the Issyk-Kul region associated with the making of yurt frames and the knowledge needed to assemble them. The object of a visit is a living craft tradition in a working settlement, rather than a static display of tents.
The wooden structure, its individual components and the way they fit together make the craft especially interesting. Seeing a yurt as a constructed home adds meaning to later stays on mountain pastures. The village’s southern-shore setting links this cultural stop with the lake landscape, while the workshop visit itself depends on the craftspeople and their current work.
