Exact track geometry from the GPX publicly supplied by the route publisher. This is the published bikepacking itinerary, not a new field recording or confirmation of current passability. Source elevations are retained; no inferred joins or substitute roads were added. The publisher GPX has sparse sections with point-to-point edges exceeding 1 km; these original edges were retained and do not show trail-level detail.

Elevation profile

Elevation values come from the source file. Inaccuracies can affect total ascent. Gaps in the track are not joined.

Surface and terrain

The source does not provide a complete surface survey. Expect conditions to change after rain, snow and river floods.

ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The Tian Shan Traverse follows the mountain interior of Kyrgyzstan between the eastern lake region and Bishkek. Its setting is the linked landscape of high pasture, dividing ridges and river valleys, rather than a continuous lakeside or urban road corridor.

The interest is the physical continuity of a mountain country: individual valleys become stages in a broader crossing, and settlements take their meaning from the next pass or basin. Issyk-Kul and the capital provide large geographical anchors. The author’s route highlights include Song-Kul, linking the high lake basin with the surrounding valley crossings.

By car & parking

Ask locally about road access, entry rules and a permitted place to park. Use the line only for its stated mode of travel and exact scope.
