ROUTE OVERVIEW

At a glance

Heritage at a slower pace

Tash Rabat suits a shorter motorcycle journey starting in Naryn, with time to get off the bike and understand the stone building in its valley. This road variant follows the ordinary At-Bashy approach. It does not reproduce the longer Issyk-Kul itinerary or a supported expedition’s remote pass detours.

A staged valley ride

Prepare in Naryn, then ride to At-Bashy and the public approach to Koshoy-Korgon. Park away from the fragile earthworks and visit on foot if access is confirmed. Continue on the southern road to the Tash Rabat turn. Assess the final valley surface using a recent local report and the group’s actual tyres and luggage. Finish at an agreed camp approach or legal road parking; walk to the caravanserai rather than riding onto its grounds.

The overnight matters

Book the valley night before leaving town, checking opening dates, bedding, warmth, meals and the last approach. Keep waterproofs and insulation accessible even in summer. Confirm fuel along the outward and return stages, carry a compatible puncture kit and agree how an immobilised motorcycle would be recovered. Check riding documents, insurance and rental permissions for the intended roads. Torugart, Chatyr-Kul and MELS are separate undertakings, so a spare afternoon does not automatically add them to the trip.

Preparation and equipment

Adventure or dual-sport motorcycle with suitable tyres and manageable luggage; road-only machines stop where the surface becomes unsuitable.

Track length: 125.2 km. This distance covers the track shown on the map. Add any approach, return or transfer sections that are outside it.

Getting there

Normal At-Bashy/valley road to a confirmed camp or parking; historic sites on foot. Border/pass extensions excluded. Use the normal Naryn–At-Bashy road and valley access to a confirmed camp/road parking below Tash Rabat. Walk to the building. No Torugart, Chatyr-Kul or MELS-pass extension.

Without a car

Confirm transport to the actual trailhead, not just the nearest town. Agree the return pickup point and a latest contact time before leaving mobile coverage.

By car & parking

Ask locally about road access, entry rules and a permitted place to park. Use the line only for its stated mode of travel and exact scope.
