ROUTE OVERVIEW

At a glance

Route and stops

Use the published GPX as a route to study carefully, then build a personal day plan around it. This is an expedition-style loop, not a sequence of ordinary road transfers. The author identifies the Kegeti crossing and busy Boom Gorge traffic as important challenges. Read the original route page and the companion ride report before choosing this as your first Kyrgyzstan bicycle journey.

Begin with a fully loaded test ride near your accommodation. Check that the wheels, luggage mounts, brakes and low gears can cope with prolonged rough riding, and that you can push the loaded bicycle safely. Pack shoes suitable for walking, a repair kit you know how to use and equipment for an unplanned night outside. Keep the food plan separate from the map: mark each confirmed shop, the next opportunity to obtain water and the point at which you can leave the route.

Planning your visit

Kochkor offers a natural decision point to assess the bicycle, supplies and remaining time. Ending a trip there is a valid plan. Before committing to the mountain return, obtain recent local information and compare it with the historical line. The cleaned GPX preserves source coordinates and elevation without personal timing data. It documents what was published; it is not evidence that every road, river crossing or pass is open today.

Preparation and equipment

Well-maintained mountain or rugged bikepacking bicycle with wide tyres, very low gearing and a manageable loaded weight.

Track length: 548.7 km. This distance covers the track shown on the map. Add any approach, return or transfer sections that are outside it.

Is this route for you?

Choose the route after checking the actual start, finish and terrain with a local guide. Mapped geometry alone does not establish technical difficulty. Your group should be comfortable navigating offline and changing plans when conditions deteriorate.
