ROUTE OVERVIEW
At a glance
A journey between different landscapes
This is a supported horse crossing from the Toktogul side toward Arslanbob, not a short ride around the walnut forest. CBT Toktogul publishes a multi-day programme through lakes and mountain country, finishing in Arslanbob. A second local provider describes an Ozgorush-based version with a preparation day. These are useful evidence for the corridor, but their stage schedules and logistics should not be combined as if they were one guaranteed itinerary.
Choose one organiser and obtain a single current day-by-day plan. Ask exactly where the horses are met, what vehicle approach is included and which nights are in a family home or tent. Toktogul is the organisation base shown on the map; the actual mounting point is agreed with the team.
Preparation and the lake stages
A practice ride before the crossing helps the guide match horses and riders and gives you time to fix a saddle or luggage problem. Tell the team about your experience with long days, dismounting and walking on rough ground. Confirm the riding helmet, bag system and the equipment carried by pack horses before leaving the village.
The published programmes use Kara-Suu on the Toktogul side as an important lake stage. The name also appears elsewhere in Kyrgyzstan, so confirm the district rather than following a search result by name alone. At camp, keep personal items organised and accessible; drying clothing, finding a headlamp and preparing tomorrow’s bag are easier when the main load has a simple system.
Passes, river valleys and forests
Allow the horse team to determine the daily path and any changes around water or damaged ground. A mountain crossing can involve walking beside the horse, and a rider should not assume the entire day is spent seated. Keep photographs and pauses compatible with the guide’s management of the group. Ask for rest before a small problem becomes a reason to hurry the last part of the day.
Discuss drinking water, meals, the sleeping setup and how a shortened journey would be handled. Remote stages need an agreed support plan, not an assumption that a taxi can reach the next bend. Keep the day’s essentials with you while bulky items travel in the arranged carrying system.
Finish in Arslanbob
The forest landscape makes a distinct finish after the mountain stages. Reserve accommodation and clarify whether a final village night is included. Onward travel from Arslanbob may be your responsibility, so organise it separately and keep a buffer after the crossing. The map marks regional anchors without joining them by a horse line: no verified GPX was located for the chosen version. It does not locate camps, select river crossings or measure the length of the riding days.
Preparation and equipment
Locally selected riding and pack horses, experienced horsemen and agreed tent-camp support.

Is this route for you?
Choose the route after checking the actual start, finish and terrain with a local guide. Mapped geometry alone does not establish technical difficulty. Your group should be comfortable navigating offline and changing plans when conditions deteriorate.
